Learn the art of “Kinusaiga” (the Japanese Art of Fabric Painting/Collaging) with Soaring Arts!

Come try something a little different with us!

As part of Joy in the Making, we’re exploring Kinusaiga—a Japanese-inspired fiber art sometimes described as “painting with fabric.”

Instead of using paint or sewing, a design is drawn and cut into a foam surface. Small pieces of fabric are then carefully tucked into the grooves, fitting together to create the lines, shapes, colors and textures of the finished piece.

We’ll walk you through the process as you create your own 9 x 11 Kinusaiga artwork to take home.

No sewing. No experience needed. Just fabric, a little experimenting, and the fun of watching all those separate pieces become something pretty amazing. ❤️

And really…that feels pretty fitting for Joy in the Making!

All ages and abilities are welcome. We do ask that kids under 8 are accompanied by an adult.

The class fee is $15

This includes all the supplies needed to complete this Japanese fabric painting, as well as the valuable instruction of our Artists!

We do ask that you pre-register/pre-pay for the class.

Joy in the Making: Broken Pieces, Beautiful Things

✨ JOY IN THE MAKING: 
BROKEN PIECES, BEAUTIFUL THINGS ✨
(Mosaic Making with Soaring Arts)
Broken pottery. Old china. Pieces that didn’t quite make it. Things that have already had a life.
We think there’s still a whole lot of beauty left in them. ❤️
Join Soaring Arts at the winery for a special Joy in the Making mosaic experience!
Our Soaring Artists will create the original drawings and designs, which will be transformed into wooden mosaic shapes for you to choose from (birds, butterflies, flowers, Ohio State and more!) 
Then YOU get to bring them to life using a colorful collection of our handmade broken pottery and delicate china! 
(We will have a great variety of options. However, if you have a special piece that you’d like to add to your mosaic, bring that along as well!) 
Choose your design, dig through the pieces, and make it entirely your own.
There’s no perfect pattern to follow and no need to be a skilled artist. Pick the pieces that speak to you, change your mind, make a mess, try something unexpected, and see what happens along the way.
Because around here, we believe the pieces that didn’t go according to plan still have plenty of possibility in them.
That’s kind of the whole point. ❤️
Come have a drink, eat a plank, make alongside us, and turn some broken pieces into beautiful things.
✨ This event is part of Soaring Arts’ Joy in the Making series AND and is a stop on the Journey of Joy Passport! Bring your passport and be sure to get your stamp while you’re here. Each stop along the journey gets you a little closer to your Journey of Joy trophy! 🏆
A LITTLE ABOUT THE PROCESS:
During this session, you’ll design and glue all of your mosaic pieces in place. When the night is over, our Soaring Artists will bring the mosaics back to the Studio, where they’ll grout and finish them for you!
Your finished piece will then be available for pickup at the Lumberyard the following week.

(This includes a 10”-14” wooden base, and all the supplies you’ll need to create you masterpiece, as well as the valuable instruction and finish work of our Artists. 
🍷 Drinks available for purchase from the winery!
